Day Twenty Six

Day 26 We left Winner, SD and moved out of wheat country and into corn country. I think we might just consume a little too much corn. We made a stop in Yankton, SD at the Lewis and Clark Center overlooking the Big Muddy, Missouri River. We pushed on across Nebraska and made it to Omaha. Mostly a travel day. Can’t say enough about how good my kids are getting at the “grab the luggage kids” its time to check in. I have had some difficulty with my left shoulder’s rotator cuff (to the point I can’t really use my left arm), so the kids have done all of the luggage moving and are really getting good at operating all of the parts of the RV, except for the driving part.

Day Twenty Five

Day 25 We travelled from Rapid City, South Dakota to Winner, SD. After a much needed late sleep-in and picking up a few supplies from Target we left the Black Hills and drove for about an hour to Wall, SD. We made a stop for lunch at the Famous (according to them) Wall Drugstore. Not much left of the drugstore its more like the drug store consumed the entire downtown and converted all of the shops to one endless tourist trap. J Gar did try on a buckskin jacket until I saw the $370 price tag. After lunch we went to the National Grasslands Center. This turned out to be a wonderful stop. We were the only people in the place and the Park Rangers were very interested in helping us. We watched a movie on the Grasslands that explained how much there used to be an how little there is now and the efforts being made to restore the 4 million acres that still have a chance. J Gar was very interested in the Prairie Dogs. All three participated in the Junior Ranger program answering a lot of questions from the museum and all three received their badges. It was quite cute.

Wall is the starting point for the Badlands National Park. This place is really different and worth the trip. It is just an odd place. Great pictures. We drove the loop and ended up at the park headquarters before driving the rest of the way across the plains to Winner, SD. Great name but I don’t think it ever really caught on. Luckily they have one Holiday Inn Express, checked in around 10pm and collapsed in the bed.
